Finding an Attorney

Be represented

If you decide you need to hire an attorney, make sure you understand what you will be paying for, how much it will cost, and when you must pay.

Lawyer Referral Service

Lawyer Referral Service (LRS) is a public service of the Idaho State Bar. Idaho attorneys who are part of this service have agreed to provide clients with an initial $35 half-hour consultation. After the initial half-hour, further fees are negotiated with the lawyer.

You can receive a referral by calling the Idaho State Bar at (208) 334-4500 or you can access a full listing of attorneys by visiting the Lawyer Referral pages on the Idaho State Bar’s website.

Civil Legal Services

If you are low income and need a lawyer for a civil matter, programs like Idaho Volunteer Lawyers Program or Idaho Legal Aid Services may be able to help. Using a statewide network of attorneys, these programs provide free civil legal assistance in certain cases to persons living in poverty. Case types include: domestic violence and sexual assault, protecting abused and neglected children, preserving housing, helping vulnerable seniors, and discrimination.

Criminal Legal Services

If you have been accused of a crime and cannot afford an attorney, you may qualify for free help. Contact your county’s Public Defender office for more information.
