Serving In Our Country’s Time of Need
The Selective Service System of the federal government requires all males register for a draft pool in case of a national military emergency. You must register with your local post office or at the Selective Service System website within 30 days of your 18th birthday. If you don’t sign up, you may be denied government benefits or jobs. It is also a condition of eligibility for enrollment at and financial assistance from a public college. Failure to sign up can even lead to criminal charges.
If a draft were to begin, conscientious objectors would have the opportunity to file a claim for exemption from military service based upon their religious or moral objection to war.
