Selective Service
Serving In Our Country’s Time of Need
The Selective Service System requires all males to register for a draft pool in case of a national military emergency with their local post office or at the Selective Service System website within 30 days of their 18th birthday. Those who don’t sign up, may be denied government benefits or jobs. It is also a condition of eligibility for enrollment at and financial assistance from a public college. Failure to sign up can even lead to criminal charges.
If a draft were to begin, conscientious objectors would have the opportunity to file a claim for exemption from military service based upon their religious or moral objection to war.
